Policy briefing- Feb 2006

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for water will only be achieved in
Africa by increased development of groundwater for rural water supply. However,
the role that groundwater plays in achieving the MDGs is underrated and rarely
articulated. This briefing note explores the main groundwater issues related to rural water supply in Africa.

London Conference 29-30 June 2005: Groundwater and the Millennium Development Goals

As part of the debate surrounding the G8 talks on poverty reduction in sub-Saharan Africa, the International Association of Hydrogeologists hosted two days of meetings in London on the topic of “Groundwater and poverty reduction in Africa”. The meeting brought together key water professionals from Africa, the UK and other European countries.

Free groundwater books 2005

Many hydrogeologists in Africa find it difficult to get access to groundwater books. Although the web may in the future increase access, at the moment the web is not sufficiently fast or reliable in many countries to download large texts. Therefore, the IAH Burdon Network has been looking at ways to try and make access to books easier. As a start, we are pleased to offer IAH members in sub-Saharan Africa a FREE groundwater book (excluding South African members for 2005).
