Luiz Amore is the General Secretary for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of the Guarani Aquifer System Project (GEF, World Bank, OAS, Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay and Uruguay initiative). His background is in geology, as a specialist in geomatics and holds master degree on environmental engineering (and is a PhD candidate), with focus on groundwater. He has worked for NGOs and different governmental levels in a professional career oriented to water and groundwater management. He was Planning Secretary in the Samambaia County; Regional Coordinator of Participatory Budget in the Federal District and Coordinator of different projects related to urban environment and water resources. At Federal level he was Coordinator of the Paraiba do Sul watershed Project (Japanese grant) and the Guarani Project, since its preparation phase in the Water Resources Secretariat and the Brazilian Water Resources Agency. He was responsible for elaborating two specific groundwater acts approved by the Groundwater Technical Committee and the Brazilian Water Council. He is a member of a number of groundwater associations in addition to IAH (ABAS, NGWA and ALHSUD). He has participated of international programs related to environmental management, such as Management of Sustainability (Sustainability Challenge Foundation) and Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD Program).
