Segun Adelana holds a senior research position at the Department of Geology & Mineral Sciences, University of Ilorin in Nigeria. He was educated at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria and University of the Western Cape, South Africa; where he worked for the degrees of B.Sc (Honours) Geology, M.Sc. Applied Geology and PhD in Hydrogeology respectively. He did postgraduate research training in Hydrogeology in Germany at the Institute of Geology, Technical University Darmstadt (under the German Academic Exchange Research Fellowship). Mr. Adelana has more than 18 years of both teaching and research as well as consultancy experience in Geology, Groundwater investigation, Hydrogeological and Geotechnical studies. He is experienced in communicating to scientists, decision makers and the general public.
He has been involved in several international joint research projects in the field of Hydrogeology and has served as a member of several International Scientific Committees for Groundwater Conferences. He is presently a member of the International Year of Planet Earth - Science Implementation Committee (IYPE).
He is currently Vice President of IAH for Sub-Saharan Africa and works actively to support IAH membership in the region and the work of the IAH Burdon network in Africa.
He has researched and presented technical papers on water pollution, water chemistry and groundwater recharge in many international conferences during the last 10 years. His most recent publication is a 29-chapter edited volume titled ‘Applied Groundwater Studies in Africa’ shortly to be published in the IAH book series published by Taylor & Francis.
