Integrated Concepts in Water Recycling
Wollongong, Australia, 14-17 Feb 2005

The focus of the conference was to identify and address holistic synergies in water recycling. It examined complex connections between such areas as governance, organisational responsibilities, knowledge and management of health hazards, technical choices, regulatory frameworks and criteria, and public responses and stakeholder consultation processes. It brought together practitioners and researchers often working separately in these areas to highlight successes and lessons learnt through case-studies. It aimed to build an integrated understanding of these issues and to illuminate appropriate policy directions and management practices. Case studies of recycling schemes were invited in particular to showcase such local and international schemes as well as learn from the broad international experience to bring our approach to recycling and water management forward.

The conference flyer is available online or as a pdf copy www.uow.edu.au/eng/cme/research/ozaquarec/

Immediately before the event two related shortcourses will be held at the University of Wollongong:

  • Water Recycling 2005 9-11 Feb 2005
  • Membrane Technology 2005 7-9 Feb 2005

Program and registration details for those courses will be available later this year on the website:

Tampa, Florida, 15-16 April 2004
ASR IV is a one-stop shop for the latest perspectives and ongoing issues on ASR. The program has a Florida focus but the basic science, technology, management and policy issues have direct relevance for ASR programs throughout the North America and overseas.

This two-day ASR IV program will review the status of current ASR science and technology on day one, and then relate the science to policy and management issues on day two.

Cryptosporidium Removal by Bank Filtration
9-10 September 2003 in Reston, VA, USA

In September 2003 the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency's Office of Water, together with the U.S Geological Survey (USGS), sponsored a meeting to discuss the research being conducted on Cryptosporidium removal by bank filtration. All presentations from the meeting and the final agenda are now available on the following web site: http://es.epa.gov/ncer/publications/meetings/index.html#dw

Second International Riverbank Filtration Conference (RBF2)
16-19 September 2003, Cincinnati, Ohio

NWRI's First International Riverbank Filtration Conference was held in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1999. The Second International Riverbank Filtration Conference (RBF2), which showcased over 40 international speakers, focused on the experiences of waterworks worldwide and addressed the issues currently faced by users of the technology, including: riverbed dynamics, microorganisms and chemicals, operational experience, and public policy. For more information on the conference click here... and scroll down to Second International Riverbank Filtration Conference (RBF2).

The proceedings of the 2nd International Riverbank Filtration Conference can now be purchased from kluwer@wkap.com or call toll free 1-866-269-9527.

The National Water Research Institute also has a book of the abstracts (>200pages and 36 of the 41 powerpoint presentations on a CD) for US$35 available from their site.

More than 100 papers from 20 countries cover the latest research and current state of the art on a widening range of methods for recharge enhancement and groundwater quality protection and improvement. These include bank
filtration, aquifer storage and recovery and soil aquifer treatment as well as rainwater harvesting and pond infiltration. The emphasis is on understanding subsurface process to improve siting, design and operation and
facilitate use of stormwater and reclaimed water, particularly in water-scarce areas.

IAH Members can purchase this title with 60% discount. Please mention on the order form your membership number.

The abstracts of the papers presented at the conference have been entered in the MAR searchable database.
